Time to make a noise
Albert Einstein was not always right. "If A is a success in life," he said in 1950, "then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut."
There's no doubt the German-born physicist and originator of the theory of relativity was a genius; he had imaginative ideas and an intellect ahead of its time. But his recipe for success is only two-thirds true. Sometimes we should shout about what we do well.
It's a charming idiosyncrasy of character that makes the British modest. All too often, however, our humility is out of step with the modern business world that is increasingly led by marketing and advertising. There are times when we should stop, take stock and talk about our achievements.
Britain leads the field when it comes to catering and hospitality. And in no better way is this recognised than in the Caterer& Hotelkeeper Awards.
For 17 years the Cateys have represented the best of British hospitality. Think hard. Isn't there someone, somewhere who is ahead of the pack? Don't you know of someone who's work justifies a Catey? I'm sure you do.
Unique awards
The Cateys are unique because they are judged by the industry; the winners are chosen by their peers. Joining the process for the first time this year, consultants Arthur Andersen will prepare a dossier on each of the nominations, ensuring that all candidates receive an equal and fair hearing. All you have to do is provide us with the names.
Think of the acknowledgement that your colleagues deserve. Try shouting for them. Prove that Einstein was wrong and that we don't have to remain quiet about our successes. Nominate someone for a Catey today.
