Toddler drowns after fall from floating restaurant

A TODDLER died after apparently falling from his parents' floating restaurant into Dartmouth harbour.

Fifteen-month-old Jordan Deacon went missing from the Res Nova restaurant at the mouth of the River Dart on Sunday afternoon (16 May), and his parents John, 30, and Suzette, 39, called in the police.

Jordan was found in about 30ft of water by a diver 15 minutes later and was airlifted to Torbay Hospital by police helicopter, but died shortly afterwards.

There were about 20 diners on board the 120ft converted barge when the accident happened.

Police are hoping to interview all the customers to find out how the toddler got into the water, and the Health and Safety Executive is also likely to be involved.

The parents issued a statement through the police saying: "We are a very close family and are devastated by this tragic accident."
