Townhouse buys Maitland

The Edinburgh-based Townhouse Group has bought the Maitland hotel in the Scottish capital from Corus and Regal Hotels.

Navin Varma, owner of the group, paid just under £4m for the 65-bedroom hotel in Shandwick Place, in the heart of the city centre.

The purchase takes the number of hotels in the Townhouse Group to four. The others are the 18-bedroom Ailsa Craig and the 16-bedroom Greenside, both in Royal Terrace, and the 45-bedroom Frederick House in Frederick Street.

The Maitland was the sixth hotel sold out of the planned disposal of 25 hotels that Corus and Regal announced in January. The property agent involved was FPDSavills.
