Travel Inn adds RoadChef lodges

Travel Inn, Whitbread's budget hotel division, is to take over the running of lodges at RoadChef's motorway service areas.

The deal will provide Travel Inn with its first presence on the UK's motorways.

Travel Inn will convert 13 RoadChef lodges to its own brand from the beginning of next month. A fourteenth site, near Winchester, opens this winter.

Together they will add 551 bedrooms to Travel Inn's stock, bringing its total to 13,243. The company plans to develop a further 450 bedrooms at RoadChef sites "in the near future".

Travel Inn will manage the hotels but staff will remain employees of RoadChef.

RoadChef is the third-largest operator of motorway service areas in the UK and will have 20 sites by the end of this year. Its portfolio includes Clacket Lane on the M25 and Sandbach Services on the M6.

The deal brings the number of Travel Inn's locations to nearly 250.
