Water firm is sued over bug

A Torquay wine bar owner has begun legal action against South West Water after customers became ill from drinking water in the restaurant.

David Edwards of Vaughans Wine Bar is claiming £6,500 in lost profits after a cryptosporidium outbreak last summer.

In an earlier case at Torquay County Court, a judge ruled against a customer who claimed South West Water was in breach of contract by not providing water fit for human consumption.

But the judge said that a suit brought on the grounds of negligence or breach of statutory duty might be more likely to succeed.

South West Water declined to comment.
