Wetherspoon annouces sales growth

Pub operator JD Wetherspoon has announced strong first-quarter sales of £110.3m, an increase of 32% on the previous year.

A mild autumn helped like-for-like sales increase by 6% in the 13 weeks to 29 October, following on from an 18% rise in the comparative period in 1999.

The group has opened 20 new pubs in this first quarter and a further two since October 29, bringing the total to 450. This includes the first two Wetherspoons in Northern Ireland where there are a further four planned in the remainder of the financial year.
