Wetherspoon announces Christmas success

Like-for-like sales at JD Wetherspoon increased by 10% in the five-week Christmas period up to December 31 2000, the company said today.

Total sales were £49.7m, a 31% rise on the same period in 1999. For the 22 weeks to December 31, the financial year so far, sales were also 31% up on the previous year's at £194.1m.

Wetherspoon opened 38 pubs in those 22 weeks, bringing its total to 466. Last week it announced plans to open 110 more during the year.
