Fresh air with style The cabinet which houses the Breeze air filter is available in teak, beech, cherry and oak finishes, suiting hotels and other hospitality uses. The specially designed air filtration system is designed to deal with passive smoking, ozone, odours and dust allergies. It has a large surface area and depth loading cassette style pre-filter for filtration of airborne particles plus a gas filter designed to deal with ozone and odours as an alternative to traditional carbon panels (which can suffer from dust emissions and leaks).

Operation is described as whisper quiet: 33 dB(A) at low speed and 50 dB(A) at higher speeds. Other products in the range include a "smokers' bar" which offers a place for smokers to relax without disturbing people around them and, for more enclosed areas, a "smokers' room" can be built into an existing room.

Can we talk? With four distinct areas - main bar, conservatory, family area and smoking area, with booths - the Old Nelson pub restaurant in Stroud needed to make it easy for customers to call waiting staff but the layout made it impossible to monitor all the dining areas at the same time. The answer has proved to be a TableCall electronic system which avoids the needs for customers to queue at the bar and tell waiters when orders are ready in the kitchen, thus making service speedy and reliable.

The system, which communicates in wireless mode without any cables, features a compact housing with up to five buttons, which can be placed or fixed onto the table. Pushing a button sends a pager alert displaying the table's number and requirement to staff.

Electrical protection With wide variety of powered equipment from chillers and cooking appliances to entertainment systems and specialised lighting, the Ha! Ha! Bar & Canteen chain now employs Powervar power conditioners and uninterruptible power managers (UPMs) to safeguard the operation of touchscreen tills and provide uninterruptible power for back office systems.

Owner Yates Group chose units incorporating proprietary GroundGuard Technologies to eliminate the need for dedicated/isolated circuits, considered a particular advantage in listed buildings and sites subject to frequent floor plan changes and/or power fluctuations such as at Ha! Ha! sites close to railway tracks.

Coldrooms for Kew Gardens In redesigning and refurbishing its Orangery restaurant and kitchen, housed in a Grade 1 listed building, the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew needed cold storage rooms for raw ingredients and prepared sauces respectively. To increase the efficiency of the units while reducing noise and heat in the kitchen environment, the two Williams modular coldrooms chosen were connected to remote refrigeration plant.

Salix Stainless Steel Fabrications, who were responsible for installation, also put in Williams Jade Gastronorm upright cabinets including three freezers, a meat storage cabinet and a single door refrigerator.

Keeping tabs on wet stock Introduced at this year's ScotHot show in Glasgow, Scannabar is designed to give bars, hotels and other licensed premises greater control of wet inventory using latest barcode and radio frequency technology to track spirits and wines and ensure that every order delivered to the premises ends up in the stockroom or bar. The system entails placing a bar-coded ribbon down the side of each bottle to be monitored. This also serves as a measuring tool to count the amount of alcohol left in open bottles.

Using the original manufacturer's barcode, a unique Scannabar coded label covering brand, size, shape and volume is created for each bottle and these can then be scanned using wireless RF hand-held scanners which transfer the data back to the organisation's office computer for analysis.
