Whitbread hives off IT department

Whitbread has contracted out its computer department in a £50m deal that will see 104 staff transferred to the new contractor.

The seven-year deal has been won by Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), which will look after all Whitbread's central information systems and technology, including data services, e-mail, intranet and Internet.

Whitbread's 2,250 PC users will have their problems fixed remotely and new software will be distributed in the same way. CSC will also provide training for Whitbread staff.

Whitbread said the deal would save money, help it overcome skills shortages and give it the flexibility to respond to business change.
