Whitbread to sell off Swallow pubs

Whitbread today confirmed it is putting up for sale the pubs and restaurants it acquired as part of its takeover of the Swallow Group last November.

A small number of properties have been retained and will be converted to Whitbread branded pubs.

The business for sale is made up of 187 pubs, including 146 managed and 41 tenanted pubs, supported by a head office. Most of the properties are located in the North East of England and in Yorkshire.

In the financial year to 30 September 1999, the business, including the pubs Whitbread is keeping, generated sales of about £64.4m and made an operating profit of £14.6m.
