Wimbledon chef serves up first-day shock
A Wimbledon chef quit his job on the first day of the tennis tournament.
Facilities Management Catering (FMC), the caterer for the annual sporting event, admitted one of its chefs walked out on the opening day, but would not name him or explain why he left.
A company insider claimed the chef responsible for ordering food and devising menus resigned after a blazing row with a director.
A spokeswoman for FMC agreed a chef had resigned on day one of the championship but she denied rumours that he had wiped orders and recipes from the company's computer in retaliation.
FMC has provided the catering at Wimbledon since 1999, winning the contract from Gardner Merchant subsidiary Town and County.
Town and County had held the account for 50 years.
