Win a trip to a top Swiss hotel school

Caterer & Hotelkeeper has teamed up with the world-famous Lausanne Hotel School in Switzerland to offer a lucky reader a free place at one of the school's 1995 Hospitality Management summer courses. The week-long courses, which are conducted in English, are:

  • Total Quality Management, 24-28 July

  • Information Technology for Managers, 31 July-4 August

  • Marketing and Sales, 7-11 August

  • Human Resources Management, 14-18 August

  • Financial Management, 21-25 August

Senior figures from all over the world have been recruited to teach the courses so you can be assured of the highest possible standards. Each course normally costs Sfr2,400, a price which includes all tuition, meals and accommodation. (The exchange rate on 19 June was SFr1.81 to the pound.) In addition, Gary Hall Associates has kindly agreed to pay for the winner's air fare.

Lausanne goes English

The Lausanne Hotel School is offering the free place to celebrate the launch of the prestigious Haute Ecole Spécialisée degree in English. Starting in winter 1996, this famous course will be taught in both English and French and students will be able to choose either language.

The course offers theoretical and practical training in international hospitality management for future managers of both independent and chain-operated hotels.

To qualify for the course, UK educated students need a minimum of five GC(S)Es at ordinary level and two at advanced level (or the Scottish equivalent), including passes in French and mathematics. They will also need to sit an entrance exam (held in both February and August 1996) and demonstrate that they have worked for at least two months in a hotel or restaurant. Applications for the February exam close on 30 November 1995 and for the August one on 30 June 1996.

The three-year course includes two six-month placings in hotels, one of which must take place in Switzerland. The placings are fully supervised by the school.

For further information about the course contact Antoinette Brugger, Service des Admissions, Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne, Le Chalet-à-Gobet, CH-1000 Lausanne 25 (Tel: 00 41 21 785 11 11).
