San Francisco plan
Starwood Hotels & Resorts has formed a partnership with developer Carpenter & Company to build a 40-storey hotel and apartment block in San Francisco. The first 20 floors of the building will house a 269-bedroom hotel, the St Regis Museum Tower.
Sun in the Maldives
International luxury hotel group Sun International is to manage the Kanuhura Sun Resort and Spa in the Maldives. The resort, on its own private island, has 100 villas and suites and three restaurants.
Regent into Europe
Regent International Hotels is moving into Europe with a 200-bedroom hotel in Malta and a 160-bedroom property on France's Côte d'Azur. It is also building a 186-bedroom luxury hotel in Boston, USA.
Marriott's blarney
Marriott International will manage a 148-bedroom resort in County Wicklow, south of Dublin. When it opens next spring, it will be the first Marriott in Ireland.
Chicago with a W
Starwood Hotels & Resorts is to open two W-branded boutique hotels in Chicago this summer, one in the city centre with 390 bedrooms and one on the shore of Lake Michigan with 556 bedrooms.
Jumeirah awards
At the Hotel Intelligence Middle East Conference in Dubai, hotel chain Jumeirah International's Jumeirah Beach Hotel was named best resort hotel in the Middle East, while the Emirates Tower Hotel won best business hotel and best hotel room design. Both are in Dubai.
