The five-star, Alexander House Hotel in Sussex has opened its new Champagne bar after completing an extensive renovation.

The 1608 Champagne Bar takes its title from the year in which the hotel was first built, and has replaced the hotel’s former Library. Previously formed of two rooms, the new bar has opened up the space, adding a cocktail bar, bright lighting and mirrors.

The décor still nods to the hotel’s history, with a “dramatic” fireplace and a display of century-old books.

There is also a new cocktail menu – which includes Chase vodka cocktails, cucumber Martinis and “eldertinis” (with elderflower) ‒ alongside over 30 Champagne varieties, 20 brandies, 15 gins and 145 wines, with the latter chosen especially by deputy general manager Joe Forrest.

The opening was marked by an official launch party earlier this month, which saw East Grinstead’s deputy mayor, councillor Nick Hodges, and Mid Sussex district councillor Bruce Forbes, among the guests in attendance.

The hotel’s co-general manager, Peter Hinchcliffe ‒ who runs the hotel with his wife Deborah ‒ toasted the new bar on opening night.

The 38-room hotel has also opened a new two-bedroom luxury serviced lodge, and is planning 19 new luxury suites, expected for the autumn.

Set in 120 acres of countryside, the site also has a spa with 25 treatment rooms, plus the 3 AA Rosette AG’s Restaurant, and the more informal Reflections restaurant, both run by executive chef Mark Budd.
