Greg Dyke acquires fifth Sheffield hotel
Vine Hotels, headed by former Football Association chairman and BBC director general Greg Dyke, has acquired Kenwood Hall hotel in Sheffield off a guide price of £6.5m.
The four-AA-star, 114-bedroom hotel has been purchased from the Principal Hayley group, which bought the hotel in 2007 when it was operated under the Marriott brand. Vine will be making a multi-million pound investment in the hotel. Refurbishment work has already begun on the bedrooms and public areas, while the currently closed spa treatment rooms will be reopened.
Vine Hotels is owned by chairman Dyke, chief executive Garin Davies and commercial development director Andrew Rouse. The company owns five other hotels: DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield Park hotel, Best Western Plus Mosborough Hall hotel, Best Western Cutlers hotel and Whirlowbrook Hall, all in Sheffield, as well as the Mercure Dolphin hotel in Southampton.
Davies said: "We are delighted to have added Kenwood Hall to our portfolio; it is a truly stunning property. We have seen fantastic performance in our hotels over the past few years and this luxury hotel is an exciting addition to the portfolio."
