Lord Crewe Arms launches events space
The Lord Crewe Arms at Blanchland in Northumberland has expanded with the launch of a private events space in the 15th century gatehouse of Blanchland Abbey.
Located across the village square from the Lord Crewe Arms - relaunched in 2014 by the Calcot Collection as a 21-bedroom pub-hotel - the Gatehouse features a chef's table demonstration kitchen, a reception snug for drinks and canapés, and a dining/meeting room for up to 18 seated guests. The latter space holds a civil wedding licence.
The Calcot Collection's interior design director Nicky Farquhar has created the décor, which provides a mix of inspiration from the surrounding North Pennine landscape combined with a contemporary vibe.
Simon Hicks, head chef of the Lord Crewe, will oversee the menus for the Gatehouse, which will host a series of guest chefs, including Martin Sweeney, head chef at Tramshed in Shoreditch, London; Francesco Volgo, head chef at Barnsley House, near Cirencester, Gloucestershire; and Bob Arora of Sachins in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Tommy Mark, general manager of the Lord Crewe Arms, said the Gatehouse's return to life as "a historic Blanchland gem" will enhance the offer of the business. "We can now feature a far greater and more varied selection of special events that draw on the character and scale of the Lord Crewe Arms by staging them in their own dedicated space," he added.
The Lord Crewe Arms has three sister properties in Gloucestershire operating under the Calcot Collection: the 35-bedroom Calcot, 18-bedroom Barnsley House and the 16-bedroom the Painswick.
