Pub firm Brewhouse & Kitchen has moved back into profit in 2017, after a “strong year of growth”.
The company, which currently has 21 pubs across the country of which 16 have opened in the past two years, made a pre-tax profit in the year to 30 September 2017 of £575,000.
That was up from a pre-tax loss in the year before of just over £672,000 and came despite £5.5m of capital spend together with pre-opening costs and servicing an enlarged head office.
Turnover for the year to 30 September 2017 rose by 32% to £11.6m.
During the year, the business opened two new sites in Lichfield and Cardiff as well as its second Bournemouth site after a 12-month long development that was delayed due to obtaining planning and listed building permission.
Brewhouse & Kitchen also continued to develop its franchise business, signing an additional franchise agreement with Knott End Pub Company.
It now has seven franchised sites.
Co-founders Kris Gumbrell and Simon Bunn opened their first pub in Portsmouth in early 2013.
Each venue has its own in-house brewer and a range of 20-plus beers and ciders, including a selection brewed on-site and exclusive to the individual bar.
However, the business also generates about 40% of its turnover from food.
