The Curtain hotel in liquidation

The company that operated the Curtain hotel in London's Shoreditch is understood to be in liquidation.

Martin Armstrong of Turpin Barker Armstrong has been appointed liquidator for AL Curtain Tenant and Curtain Management Holdings, both trading as the Curtain.

The 120-bedroom Curtain hotel, operated by New York hotel operator Michael Achenbaum, who founded the Gansevoort Hotel Group, opened on Curtain Road in May 2017. The venue featured Red Rooster restaurant operated by US-based chef Marcus Samuelsson and a private members' club.

The freehold of the property was sold to the Reuben Brothers in 2018. The hotel continued to be operated by Achenbaum and co-developer Jeffrey Levine, who held the long-term lease. At the time Achenbaum said the sale of the freehold would "act as a catalyst for us to develop sister properties in different international locations".

No further comment was available from the liquidators at the time of publication.
