Eight taken to hospital after carbon monoxide leak at London hotel

Six adults and two children were taken to hospital after reports of a carbon monoxide leak at a hotel in London's Bloomsbury.

Ten firefighters from London Fire brigade, four ambulance crews from London Ambulance Service and police officers were called to the scene this morning (19 April) after a possible "chemical incident".

London Ambulance Service's Hazardous Area Response Team also rushed to the site.

People were evacuated from the four-storey mid-terraced hotel in Tavistock Square out of "precaution".

A man, a woman and two children showed signs of carbon monoxide inhalation.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said the incident occurred due to a boiler fault, which is "now being addressed".

They added that though some people were "taken ill", their conditions are "not life-threatening".

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called today (19 April) at 6:16am to reports of a carbon monoxide leak on Tavistock Place, WC1.

"We assessed over 20 people at the scene before taking six adults and two children to hospital."

The name of the hotel where the leak took place has not been confirmed.

A statement from London Fire Brigade confirmed that the incident was under control at 8.28am this morning.
