Fire engulfs Harvester restaurant in Littlehampton

The Harvester restaurant in Littlehampton was ravaged by a 15-hour fire that led to over 12 fire engines being present "at the height of the incident".

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service were notified of the blaze at 8.51am yesterday (10 August).

Upon arrival, officers were met with a fire in the kitchen that had already "spread to the roof".

All residents were encouraged to avoid the area "as a result of the "large amount of smoke still in the air".

A spokesperson from the fire service said: "At the height of the incident there were 12 fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms and two water carriers in attendance as firefighters worked hard to bring the fire under control.

"Once the fire was out, crews remained on scene monitoring hotspots using thermal imaging cameras and damping down until 11.06pm last night."

They added: "Fortunately the neighbouring buildings were saved."

One crew from Littlehampton and an aerial ladder platform from Worthing returned to the site this morning (11 August) to carry out a reinspection.

Staff remain on scene to check for hot spots.
