Freak Scene to open permanent site in Parsons Green

Scott Hallsworth's Freak Scene pop-up is to relaunch at a permanent site in Parsons Green in March.

Founded by the former head chef at Nobu London Old Park Lane, the Asian-inspired concept operated pop-ups in Farringdon and Soho, but the project was put on hold during the last three years.

The concept has been rebranded for its revival and will offer a more comprehensive menu, with the site offering 46 covers. The small plates menu will feature Freak Scene signature dishes, as well as sushi and sashimi, and fish dishes based on what is caught that day.

Freak Scene's return is the result of a partnership between Hallsworth and comedian Adam Hills, known for hosting Channel 4's The Last Leg, and a fan of Freak Scene's early pop-ups.

The restaurant will take over 28 Parsons Green Lane, which has formerly operated as Bistrò by Shot and Quadra.

Freak Scene launched in July 2017 and the short term rental was extended until the end of the year due to popular demand. The Soho site was expected to be permanent, which opened in March 2018 despite not reaching a crowdfunding target.

As well as head chef at Nobu London Old Park Lane for six years, Hallsworth opened Nobu Melbourne in his native Australia. On his return to London in 2012, he was appointed head chef of Japanese restaurant Wabi in Horsham, West Sussex. However, after eight months the company entered administration and Hallsworth left the business.

He then went on to create Kurobuta on Chelsea's Kings Road and a second site on Kendal Street, Marble Arch. In October 2014 Hallsworth added a member's club and restaurant, Ramusake, in South Kensington to his portfolio in April 2015, but ended the partnership after six months.
