New Hudson hotel from Morgans Hotel Group to be located on Great Scotland Yard
Morgans Hotel Group has announced that its new 234-bedroom Hudson property will be located on Great Scotland Yard in St James's, London.
Set to open in 2015, Hudson London at Great Scotland Yard heralds the beginning of Morgans' plans to introduce the lifestyle brand into major cities around the world. The only existing Hudson hotel - an 834-bedroom property which opened in New York in 2000 - is currently undergoing a £20m renovation.
Hudson London will be situated in an Edwardian building, formerly inhabited by the Ministry of Defence and more recently used as a public records library. Following its New York predecessor, the cutting-edge design will emphasize the lobby as a social hub. It will feature a restaurant on the ground floor, a 40-seat library lounge and flexible meetings space.
The hotel involves a partnership between Morgans and Sansar Investments, the company which is purchasing the property from the Crown Estate. "We could not envision a better partner to collaborate with, and are already exploring future opportunities with Morgans Hotel Group's development team, said Raman Thukral, director of Sansar Investments.
Westminster City Council planning committee granted permission for the development of the hotel earlier this month.
Hudson London at Great Scotland Yard will be Morgans' fourth property in London, joining the Sanderson and St Martins Lane hotels, and Mondrian London at Sea Containers House, which is due to open in early 2014.
