Radisson Edwardian Hotels to be rebranded as Radisson Blu

The 13-strong portfolio of Radisson Edwardian Hotels is to be rebranded under the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group's Radisson Blu banner.

Owned and operated by the Singh family's Edwardian Group, the four- and five-star Radisson Edwardian Hotels - in London, Manchester and Guildford - will be renamed under a franchise agreement by the end of the year.

The new arrangement follows the formation last month of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group as a result of the amalgamation of the US-based hospitality company Carlson and the Rezidor Hotel Group. Today the company has a portfolio of 1,300 hotels across 81 countries.

Until now, an agreement had been in place preventing Rezidor from opening any Radisson Blu hotels within the M25 - owing to the clash with Radisson Edwardian Hotels, which has operated a franchise agreement with Carlson to operate Radisson hotels in London.

"Radisson Blu is one of the world's fastest-growing upscale hotel brands and we are delighted to align Edwardian Hotels with such an iconic brand," said Jasminder Singh, chairman and chief executive of the Edwardian Group, which he founded in 1977.

"In doing so, we gain vastly greater visible presence and remove any source of potential confusion for our customers and create a stronger identity, especially in Europe."

Hubert Joly, president and chief executive of Carlson, described the agreement with the Edwardian Group as a major milestone for the growth of Radisson Blu, which now numbers 40 hotels in the UK. "With this strategic move, we will now have 13 additional Radisson Blu hotels in the London market, one of the world's most important markets. We are grateful to the Edwardian Hotels Group for their long-standing partnership and look forward to continuing to build our relationship."

The 13 Radisson Edwardian Hotels, involving 2,500 bedrooms, which will soon become Radisson Blu hotels include:
