Kolamba to open second site in London's Spitalfields
The husband-and-wife team behind Sri Lankan restaurant Kolamba are set to launch their second restaurant in London's Spitalfields this spring, five years after their first opening.
Eroshan and Aushi Meewella's Kolamba East will build on the flavours of their original site in Soho, which showcases modern Sri Lankan home-cooking.
Dishes have been inspired by their childhood memories of Colombo, as well as the recipes of the Sinhalese, Tamil, Moor, Burger (Dutch) and Malay communities.
The new 92-cover restaurant will feature larger feasting plates and Kolamba's signature ‘short eat' snacks, hoppers and sambols.
Kolamba East will also be home to two private dining rooms and a dedicated bar serving cocktails infused with Sri Lankan spirits.
The restaurant has been designed by Annie Harrison of London studio Fare Inc. in partnership with the Kolamba founders' property development and design company, WhiteBox London.
The space will display works by local artists and suppliers such as batik designer Sonali Dharmawardena and artist Pragreeth Manohansa.
Eroshan and Aushi Meewella said: "We are thrilled to be bringing Kolamba to east London this spring, and to be able to offer a brand new, elevated dining experience to our guests in this incredible space."
