Plans for new hotel developed by Prince William's estate
Prince William's private estate, the Duchy of Cornwall, has submitted plans for a huge mixed-use development in Kent that is set to include a hotel.
The scheme, named South East Faversham, will include 2,500 homes and a primary school, nursery accommodation, health facilities, a cricket ground, water recycling centre and transport infrastructure.
Planning documents did not include further details of the hotel but said the scheme was designed to offer "jobs, shops, work and leisure spaces, new educational facilities and green space for everyone to enjoy".
The planning application was first lodged in December 2023 following a "culmination of several years of engagement between the Duchy, Swale Borough council, the local community, statutory and non-statutory consultees as well as other key stakeholders", according to documents filed on Swale Borough Council.
Where possible, the project will power its premises through sustainable sources of energy, such as solar panels and heat pumps.
The Duchy of Cornwall website stated the scheme would "address housing shortages in Faversham and the surrounding area by providing 2,500 beautiful, high-quality and affordable homes and jobs in a vibrant mixed-use, mixed income, and walkable community".
It said there will be more than 875 affordable homes, of which "at least 400 will be social rented to support the most vulnerable members of the community".
The project follows the Duchy of Cornwall's previous community developments in Poundbury, Dorset and Nansledan, Cornwall.
