Plans for new golf and country club at Rudding Park approved

Plans for a new golf and country club at Rudding Park will see the replacement of a temporary structure that had "outgrown its useful life".

Councillors gave the green light to proposals to replace the existing clubhouse at the Harrogate hotel, spa and golf course with a new facility including a swimming pool, gym, restaurants and tennis facilities this morning (12 September).

The plans also include a family hub to support a caravan site, a new tennis pavilion and outdoor tennis courts.

The application stated: "The development proposals have arisen in response to the desire to upgrade the existing golf club house, which was originally built as a temporary facility and has now outgrown its useful life.

"The golf club house requires not only an upgrade, but a significant redesign to stand aside the leading facilities of the hotel, spa and Rudding House. Furthermore, the quality of the golf course has matured and improved immeasurably over the last 25 years, yet the look and feel of the existing club house considerably discredits the course."

It added: "The vision is to create the ‘UK's best independent luxury resort' and, to do this, the resort requires a new club house, redeveloped family facilities and additional sports amenities."

The new building will be constructed BREEAM Excellent standard and create 75 full-time jobs at the hotel.

Rudding Park comprises a 90-bedroom hotel, spa and two golf courses.
