Savoy Grill reopens after two-month refurbishment

Gordon Ramsay Restaurants has reopened the Savoy Grill in the Strand in London following a two-month refurbishment.

The project, which started on 26 February, was led by Afroditi Krassa of design studio Afroditi ahead of the venue's 125th anniversary.

The Grill, which first opened in 1899, now features deep-red velvet booths, blush silk lined walls and a scalloped pewter bar, in the style of 1920s Hollywood Regency.

Guests will also have the chance to visit the wine experience room, which holds exclusive wines from the Grill's cellar.

Some aspects of the original restaurant remain, including the Swarovski chandeliers and Churchill's ‘favourite' clock.

Executive head chef Michael Turner has created a seasonal menu with hero dishes such as Louet-Feisser oysters alongside Savoy Grill classics including lobster thermidor, duck à l'orange and the signature beef wellington.

The Grill will also offer an Arnold Bennett souffle that dates to 1929, which pays homage to the author, who was a regular at the hotel.

Gordon Ramsay has operated the Savoy Grill at the 267-bedroom, five-red-AA-starred property since 2003.
