The Case in Leicester closes ‘with a heavy heart'

The Case restaurant in Leicester has closed after 33 years of trading.

David Hartshorn, owner of Case, announced the news "with a heavy heart" on Facebook in the form of a poem.

"33 years ago we flung our doors open. And we've just had to close them. For the very last time. Since 1990, we've had a blast … Throughout recessions, a pandemic and mind-numbingly short-sighted decisions from Leicester City Council, we stayed true to our values. We've worked unbelievably hard. Because it's been our life blood. Our passion. Our love. We set the benchmark. Alas, we have no more to give," he said.

Sam Hagger, founder of Beautiful Pubs, which owns several pubs across Leicester, tweeted: "Very sad indeed, a Leicester institution that has contributed so much over the past 30 years. We've enjoyed some very special lunches at The Case this year alone. David's unwavering commitment to The Case has always been inspiring. Good luck to him & the team."

The Case offered seasonal, "no-nonsense British food", with dishes such as citrus and dill cured salmon, warm chive Scotch pancake with horseradish crème fraiche and cucumber Salad; cauliflower cheese and walnut tart; and apple and red berry oat crumble.
