The AA's inspectors' choice of Hotels of the Year appear in the AA Hotel Guide 2003, which is published next Monday (30 September).

Honours go to the Hotel du Vin & Bistro in Birmingham, the Scotsman in Edinburgh, Castell Deudraeth at the Italianate village of Portmeirion in Gwynedd, Wales, and Sheen Falls Lodge at Kenmare in County Kerry, Ireland.

A fifth award, for the AA Hotel Group of the Year, goes to Kent-based Marston Hotels for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to improving and developing its 16 hotels.

The AA has yet to announce the hotel guide's new editor. Earlier this month former editor Karen Brazier resigned.

In the AA Bed & Breakfast Guide 2003, also out on Monday, Lakeshore House in Windermere, Cumbria; Nether Underwood, in Symington, South Ayrshire; the Talkhouse at Caersws, Powys; and Ballywarren House at Cong, County Mayo, win Guest Accommodation of the Year awards for England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

Nonsuch House at Kingswear in Dartmouth won the Best Breakfast award.
