Altnaharrie Inn put up for sale

One of the UK's best restaurants, the Altnaharrie Inn at Ullapool, Ross-shire, is up for sale.

The prestigious hotel and restaurant, which was reached by boat, has been put on the market for £500,000 by owners Gunn Eriksen and Fred Brown 22 years after they opened.

The restaurant was closed for the whole season last year after Eriksen developed a back problem, and there were concerns that it would not open again. There were also stories that she was taking time off to produce a book of her recipes.

The restaurant established itself over two decades as one of the best in the UK, with two Michelin stars, nine out of 10 in the Good Food Guide, five rosettes in the AA guide and numerous other accolades.

Brown said: "I can't say too much about it at the moment but can confirm that it is up for sale. We are presently in Norway but will be returning to Scotland later this week."
