Bass appoints group chief executive

Sir Ian Prosser, chairman and chief executive of Bass, will drop the role of chief executive from his title next month.

Tim Clarke, chief executive of Bass Leisure Retail, will become group chief executive.

He will assume this role from Prosser, who will continue as chairman.

Tom Oliver will remain chairman and chief executive of Bass Hotels and Resorts and Richard North will continue as group finance director.

The company will split its roles of chairman and chief executive on 1 October, the start of its financial year.

A group spokesman said: "What this means is that Tim Clarke will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the business. This will allow the chairman to focus on group strategy."
