BET goes north of the border
BET Catering Services has won its first contracts both in the NHS and in Scotland.
The three multi-service contracts will run for five years at Stone House, Coat Hill and Alexander hospitals in Lanarkshire, with an additional contract to run a 54-bedroom NHS training centre in Bolton, Greater Manchester.
Taken together, the four contracts are worth £1.7m a year. The hospital contracts, previously run in-house, will be operated jointly with Initial Healthcare, BET's sister cleaning and support services contractor. The Bolton contract was won from Compass.
BET managing director Jim Walker told Caterer the new gains marked the start of an expansion into the NHS and that other contracts would follow.
The gains are also the first north of the border since Mr Walker warned Scottish catering managers he planned to compete for their business (Caterer, 17 March).
