Britannia buys ex-Principal Hotel for £3m

Britannia Hotels, owner of the Adelphi in Liverpool, has bought the 80-bedroom North Stafford Hotel in Stoke-on-Trent from Le Méridien for about £3m.

The three-star property is one of six former Principal hotels put up for sale by Le Méridien in May. Last month the group sold the 74-bedroom Keswick Country House Hotel to Blackpool-based Choice Hotels.

The North Stafford Hotel was recently granted planning permission to add 52 more bedrooms, a fact that was said to have appealed to Britannia's perference for larger corporate properties.

The hotel becomes the 22nd in Britannia's UK-wide estate, whcih now has more than 4,200 bedrooms.

ATIS REAL Weatheralls advised Le Méridien on the deal.
