Cadbury looks at café chain plan

Cadbury could set up a nationwide chain of cafés if an experiment in Bath proves a success.

The chocolate maker is the latest manufacturer to open a café to promote its name and products on the high street.

The pilot Café Cadbury opened in Bath in October and has 84 seats. Not surprisingly, it specialises in serving drinking chocolate but it also offers tea, coffee and savoury snacks.

One section has a lounge which allows customers to relax on sofas with newspapers and drinks, while the ground floor also houses a shop selling more than 50 new and exclusive lines.

Cadbury's move follows the creation of tea bars by Whittard, Unilever (Cha) and Tetley's (Gaffer's), while Nestlé has set up Café Nescafé to promote its products.
