Caines and Brownsword buy Glasgow's Arthouse hotel

Chef Michael Caines and hotelier Andrew Brownsword have bought the Arthouse in Glasgow, their second hotel property.

The Arthouse went into receivership in March.

Receivers KPMG said the sale, for an undisclosed sum, safeguarded 80 jobs at the four-star hotel.

Caines and Brownsword plan to refurbish the 63-bedroom property next year. It will include a restaurant, café and Champagne bar.

The Arthouse is their second venture together, following their purchase of the Royal Clarence Hotel in Exeter, Devon, in October 2003.

Caines said he was "extremely excited" to be expanding beyond the South-west of England.

"This underlines our intention of becoming a leading force within the hospitality sector," he added.
