Call-out doctors ‘inflate prices for hotel guests'

London hotel guests who need medical attention are being overcharged by greedy private doctors, alleges one call-out service.

Doctorcall claims that private doctor call-out rates in London average between £80 and £100, but many hotel guests are being charged nearly double.

Doctorcall's managing director Dr Charles Levinson said: "Part of the problem is that some doctors do not feel constrained by the need to cultivate goodwill if the consultation appears to be a one-off.

"And as many visiting business people and tourists are covered by health or travel insurance, they think that they can get away with overcharging."

He cited cases where private doctors demanded a wealth rating from hotel concierges before deciding their fee.
