Cash boost for English Internet tourism

The Government has announced a £3.6m cash injection to help England market itself on the Internet.

Culture secretary Tessa Jowell announced the grant for the English Tourism Council (ETC) today. The money will be spent on new Web sites, on the system that keeps the sites supplied with up-to-the-minute information on vacancies and openings, and on making the information available on devices such as mobile phones.

The system will be run through EnglandNet, a partnership of England's ten regional tourist boards and the ETC.

ETC chief executive Mary Lynch said: "This is very welcome news and a massive boost to our vision of linking up consumers and tourism businesses electronically."
