Caterer and Hotelkeeper – 14180

Caterer and Hotelkeeper – 14180

Caterer and Bibendum Wine have joined forces to spread the word about wine, with the introduction of four one-day wine schools aimed at the not-so-wine-savvy hospitality industry.

Level of knowledge required? None. Enthusiasm required? Lots. The course is aimed at those restaurateurs, and/or their employees, who are too busy to attend a series of courses, but who want to know more about putting a wine list together, developing wine as a profit centre, and enhancing the quality of their wine service.

It's a chance to get the basics under your belt, pick up tips on food and wine matching, be more creative with your wine list, find the right wines for your restaurant, inject more wine-orientated staff into your business - and generally learn more about maximising wine sales and profits.

Those in the know, who will speak at the event, include two Masters of Wine: Bibendum's Peter McCombie MW, who works closely with many of London's top hotels and restaurants, and John Hoskins MW, multiple wine list award-winner, and managing director of restaurant and pub company Huntsbridge. Add to that Rowley Leigh, chef-patron of one of London's star eateries, Kensington Place, and Willie Lebus, director of Bibendum Wine, and the scene is set for what promises to be lively day.

The venue is the Butlers Wharf Chef School, within spitting distance of Tower Bridge, London.

The school's director, John Roberts, is wholeheartedly behind the course.

"This fits in with what we are trying to do," says Roberts. "We do offer some wine education, but this brings it up a notch or two. We're hoping that plenty of chefs will attend. Chefs are equally as important as the guy on the floor."

The first date for your diary is 25 January, and, as space will be limited, phone now to secure your seat. The cost is £125 (ex-VAT). This includes a tutored tasting, New World versus Old World, and a three-course working lunch with a radical selection of wine, cooked and served up by the staff of the Apprentice, the chef school's restaurant.

For course details, call The Butlers Wharf Chef School on 0171-357 8842.
