THE second stage of the Hotel & Catering Training Company's Partners in Action conferences to promote National and Scottish Vocational Qualifications will be held in London next Tuesday and later this month in Glasgow and Manchester.
The conferences, supported by the Employment Department, are aimed at organisations approved to operate NVQs and SVQs and will encourage approved centres to examine ideas and initiatives to develop further access to the qualifications and explore ways of increasing take-up.
UNIVERSITY change
The Department of Management Studies for Tourism and Hotel Industries at Guildford's University of Surrey has shortened its name to the Department of Management Studies.
Dr Graham Parlett, head of department, said the more generic title did not imply a change of direction nor a dilution of previous activities.
With a specific remitfor the service sector, the department has developeda wider range of specialisations grouped under four major management activities - food service, hotel, retail and tourism.
quality scheme
Four top students from Inverness College are to get a year's training and work experience under a new scheme set up last week by the Inverness Principal Hotels' Association (IPHA).
Each student will work for three months in each of the four hotels in the scheme on a planned training programme.
At the end of the year the best student in the group will be guaranteed a job in their chosen career path within the region.The IPHA has guaranteed quality training for the students as well as a weekly payment of £100 plus a two-week paid holiday.
