NARBETT MOVES FROM DORCHESTER TO LYGON ARMS

ROGER Narbett, executive sous chef at London's Dorchester hotel, is moving to the Lygon Arms hotel in Broadway, Hereford and Worcester, later this summer as head chef.

Mr Narbett, who was British Gas Chef of the Year in 1990, joined the Dorchester two and a half years ago from Sloans restaurant in Birmingham, which he set up eight years ago in partnership with his father.

At the Lygon Arms he will replace Clive Howe, who is leaving after nearly six years to become executive chef for investment bank Goldman Sachs in London.

WINDOWS GAINS CHEF DE CUISINE

JACQUES Rolancy has started as chef de cuisine at the recently refurbished Windows on the World restaurant at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

Mr Rolancy started his career in Paris before moving to the two Michelin-starred Auberge des Templiers at Les Bézards in the Orléans region, where he was head chef.

In his new position at the 130-seat rooftop restaurant, Mr Rolancy reports to executive chef David Chambers, who recently moved to the Hilton from London's Le Méridien hotel (Caterer, 14 April).

HAWLEY PAIRS WITH GREEN

PETER Hawley, general manager at De Vere's Grand Hotel in Eastbourne for 11 years, has taken over the resort's Chatsworth Hotel in partnership with businessman Michael Green.

The pair intend to spend £100,000 refurbishing the Chatsworth's 48 bedrooms, 120-seat restaurant and two conference rooms, and aim to retain its three-star rating.

Mr Hawley has worked for De Vere in Eastbourne for 23 years, having started his career at the Cavendish hotel before moving to the Queens hotel as general manager.

Taking over the Grand is Jonathan Webley, who for the past 18 months has managed the De Vere Hotel in Coventry. Prior to that he spent three years as Mr Hawley's deputy at the Grand.

barrable heads bruerne's kitchen

GLEN Barrable, former sous chef at Woburn Abbey in Bedfordshire, took over this week as head chef at Bruerne's Lock restaurant in Stoke Bruerne, Northamptonshire.

Mr Barrable has been at Woburn Abbey for nearly 12 years, the past four as sous chef. He replaces Nicholas Collingwood, who has left Bruerne's Lock.

TWO MANAGERS JOIN NOVOTEL

GORDON McLean and Michael Colman have joined the Novotel group as general managers.

Mr McLean, who was previously general manager at the Wheatsheaf hotel at Newcastle Airport, has taken over at the Novotel Newcastle from Jean Bowcott, who moved to the company's Heathrow property earlier this year.

Mr Colman takes charge at the Novotel Plymouth after five years working for Forte, most recently at the Crest hotel in Swindon, where he was operations manager for a year.

GRANADA SHUFFLES MSA MANAGERS

GRANADA Services and Lodges has shuffled the managers at four of its motorway service areas (MSA).

James Horler has moved to the MSA at Leigh Delamere, Wiltshire, from the Frankley area near Birmingham, where he is replaced by Michael Guest, from the Birch service area, near Manchester.

Richard Tindale has taken Mr Guest's place at Birch, moving from the company's service area at Washington, near Newcastle. Brian Larkin from the Stirling service station replaces him.

Ceri Morgan to conference and banqueting sales manager at Kirtons Hotel and Country Club, near Reading, Berkshire, from a similar position at the Linton Lodge Hotel in Oxford.

David Klaasen to training officer for Forte Grand's two London hotels, the Waldorf and the Westbury, after running his own training consultancy.

Neil Atkinson to assistant catering manager with London Catering Services at the Royal College of Physicians in London, after graduating from Bournemouth University.

Sarah Whitfield and Deyon Johnston to consultants with personnel group Berkeley Scott from, respectively, area manager for Pizza Hut and Berkeley Scott's rival Profile.

David Hobbs, chief executive of Autobar Food Services, has been elected chairman of the Automatic Vending Association of Britain.

Peter Cass to president and chief executive officer of Preferred Resorts and Hotels Worldwide, the Chicago-based marketing consortium.

Stephen Coles to surveyor Alder King, heading up its new Taunton-based licensed property and health care department, from manager of Christie & Co's Bristol office.

OBITUARY: IAN KAY

IAN Kay, general manager for five years at the Cumberland Hotel in Harrow, Middlesex, and former manager of London's Chelsea and Curzon hotels, has died suddenly, aged 41.

Under his management, the Cumberland Hotel gained a prestigious National Training Award.

Mr Kay was due to join the scheme's judging panel in July as the industry's first representative.
