SECOND CHANCE
OUTLINE planning permission has been granted to Greyhawk Leisure to build a 40-bedroom lodge hotel at Monmouth, Gwent.
The planned development was initially turned down by the district council but was granted on appeal by the Welsh Office.
Detailed planning consent has also been given by the town council but will have to be approved by the district council.
BUYING INNS
ELDRIDGE Pope, the Dorset-based brewer, is to buy Hovetop Inns, a group of 22 pubs along the M4 corridor between London and Bristol.
The pubs, which derive 40% of their turnover from food, will cost Eldridge between £2.15m and £3.3m, depending on their earnings in the current year.
UPPER CRUST SALE
COMPASS is trying to sell the leases on its two high street Upper Crust outlets in London.
The sites, in Villiers Street and St Martins Lane, opened about three years ago, but Compass has decided to stick to core off-high street locations such as stations and airports.
In about a year's time it expects to start franchising the baguette and Danish pastry concept externally.
TENNIS LODGE
DAVID Lloyd Leisure is building a 24-bedroom lodge at its tennis centre at Eastbourne.
The accommodation, scheduled for completion this September, will cost £15 per person per night and will be used by people attending tennis training camps or tournaments.
There are no plans to add lodges to other David Lloyd centres.
