Christmas boost for Hartford

London-based restaurant group Hartford saw a much-needed uplift in sales over Christmas and the New Year.

Sales were up by 7% during the four weeks to 31 December 2000.

Hartford has strengthened its management team with the appointment of two senior managers from the Slug & Lettuce pub chain. Jeremy Spencer joins as operations director and Frances Gillespie as human resources director. Spencer was senior operations manager at Slug & Lettuce. Gillespie was human resources director.

They join Sheila McKenzie, who joined Hartford as chief executive from Slug & Lettuce in November 2000. She was brought in after the company put four restaurants on the market in a bid to offset losses.
