Avenance takes the biscuit at Burton's

Avenance has won a one-year rolling contract to feed 1,200 staff at biscuit manufacturer Burton's Foods. The contract, which has an annual turnover of £750,000, starts in September. Avenance already provides catering for Burton's Foods staff at sites in South Wales and the Wirral, but will now also feed employees in Blackpool and Edinburgh.

MP calls for free school meals

Labour MP Ronnie Campbell is calling for free school meals for any child from a home where the annual income is less than £13,230. Campbell said that guidelines set by the Department for Education and Skills that exclude people claiming working tax credit from applying for free school meals for their child was unfair.

Healthy Apetito

Apetito, the supplier of frozen meals to the NHS and local authorities, has announced turnover in its healthcare division up by 30% in the year to June. The supplier recently bought Dudley, West Midlands-based Butcher & Baker Foods, a specialist in savoury pastries with annual sales of £6m.

Eaton's triple

Eaton Group has won three new contracts worth a total of £1m in annual turnover. A three-year deal with EDF Energy in London will be serviced from Eaton Fine Dining Direct's production kitchen. Aramark previously held the contract. Eaton's community meals division, Fresh CM, has won a new four-year contract with Buckinghamshire County Council, where provision was previously in-house. And a five-year deal with the London Borough of Newham sees Eaton take over from Apetito to deliver 100,000 meals a year.
