Copthorne investigates glass in boxer's meal

Newcastle's Copthorne Hotel, which played host to boxer Joe Calzaghe last week, is investigating allegations that shards of glass were found in his meals.

Calzaghe was staying at the hotel last week prior to his much-hyped fight with Robin Reid at the Newcastle Arena last Saturday.

It is understood that while dining with his promoter, Frank Warren, Calzaghe found glass in his food on two consecutive evenings.

In a statement entitled "statement on the Joe Calzaghe incident", the hotel confirmed that "a foreign body was reportedly found in the sorbet of a guest staying at the hotel" on Saturday.

"Those investigations are still under way, and until they have reached a conclusion we are unable to expand on this statement," it said.
