Copthorne lights up Stuttgart skyline
The completion this week of a £200m entertainment complex in Stuttgart has added a new dimension to the international development of Copthorne Hotels.
The group has just completed its second hotel on the site, the 257-bedroom Copthorne Hotel Stuttgart International, a new four-star property on 17 floors with extensive conference facilities.
The first part of the development included the S.I. Hotel, which has been refurbished to three-star standards, as well as a 1,800-seat theatre, leisure facilities and a food mall. Since the opening of phase one in December, monthly revenues have averaged almost £1m from the 198-bedroom S.I. Hotel and the food mall, which attracts 75,000 diners a month.
Copthorne, which has an equity stake of about £2m in the scheme, operates both the hotels and the food mall. Its German partners run the theatre and fitness centre.
The development takes Copthorne's stock to 20 hotels in the UK and Europe. A fourth is scheduled for Halle, in the former East Germany, in September 1996.
