Cornwall missing from National Restaurant Week

Cornwall is the only county not participating in this year's National Restaurant Week, taking place from 10-20 May.

"To our disappointment no restaurants in Cornwall have joined the campaign. We have consumers crying out to go there, but to no avail," said Angela Nicholson, organiser of National Restaurant Week for the Restaurant Association (RA).

Restaurateurs in the county claimed they were unaware of the event, despite a direct mail campaign to 18,000 restaurants around the UK at the beginning of March, press advertisements and a follow-up telephone campaign.

Any restaurant could take part, with non-RA members paying a £195 fee, which also gave them complimentary membership of the association. There are only four RA members in Cornwall.

The Baroness Anelay of St Johns, shadow spokesperson for culture, media, sport and tourism in the House of Lords, launched the events in London this morning. Some 1,000 restaurants are taking part.
