Designs on hotel awards
Comedienne Sandy Toksvig will be the compere at this year's European Hotel Design Awards, designed to recognise best practice in hotel design and development, on 30 October. The 10 award categories include Best New Hotel, Best Hotel Graphics, Best Guestroom Design and Best Public Area. There is also a category to reward a student of interior design or architecture.
The awards ceremony takes place during the evening, following an all-day conference on the theme "Thinking Outside the Box". Both events take place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.
Topics for discussion at the conference include: hotels of the future, hotel lobby design and making the best use of space. Among the panellists are: Dr Giles Worsley, the Daily Telegraph's architectural critic; Robert Shepherd, vice president of development and technical services for InterContinental Hotels Group; Robin Hutson, managing director of Hotel du Vin; and Sir James Devitt, director of Insignia Hotels.
Hotel designers, owners, operators, suppliers and contractors are encouraged to attend. Entry to the conference costs £295 plus VAT per delegate. A reduced rate of £265 plus VAT applies to subscribers to Architects' Journal.
