Devon hotel scoops up green award

A DEVON hotel has won a national award for telling its guests to get on their bikes.

The Royal Castle Hotel in Dartmouth has four mountain bikes for guests to use instead of their cars.

The idea has helped it win the Best Eco-Friendly Hotel in the UK title from the HCIMA.

The 25-bedroom, three-star, 14th century coaching house pipped London's May Fair Inter-Continental for the award.

Other schemes which helped it clinch the title included using refillable bottles made from recycled glass for shampoo and bubble bath in guests' bedrooms,a green file in each bedroom of 38 things to do in the resort without using a car, using energy-saving light bulbs and composting kitchen waste for the hotel garden.

Owner Nigel Way said: "It was a great achievement."
