Donnelly takes top Scots post at Jarvis

Carl Donnelly has been appointed managing director of Jarvis Hotels in Scotland.

The newly-created position reflects the growing importance of Scotland in the group's business. Jarvis has 13 hotels in Scotland following its signing last week of operating leases to run two newly built hotels at Glasgow airport.

Donnelly, 51, was born in Glasgow and has spent virtually all his career in the hotel industry.

After early experience with Berni Inns and Trusthouse Forte, he worked in the Middle East with Ramada Hotels International before returning to the UK in the early 1980s to join Gleneagles Hotels as general manager of the North British hotel in Edinburgh.

He was then recruited by Allied Lyons as regional director of hotels for Scotland, with responsibility for all Embassy hotels north of Birmingham.

In 1990 Donnelly was a founder director of Jarvis, when the group was created to undertake the £168m management buyout of Embassy Hotels. He joined the board in 1995 as an executive director.
