Every name counts in anti-smoking campaign

Caterer's Stub out Smoking campaign is continuing to strike a chord with readers.

So far hundreds have signed and returned petition forms to our office. But we want more support to lobby Government and campaign for a ban on smoking in the workplace and protect the health of the UK's hospitality industry.

Later this month, the Department of Health's eagerly awaited White Paper on health is likely to outline the Government's position on smoking in public places. Already, as reported in Caterer in the past few weeks, several big cities and nearly 50 councils have taken steps to ban smoking.

Liverpool, London, Manchester and Cambridge all want the Government to veto smoking in public places. Oxfordshire City Council has also written to the Government to ask for a ban on smoking in pubs, bars and restaurants.

A groundswell of opinion is building and we want to put more pressure on the Government, so please sign the petition or send it online through our website at www.cater-online.com.
